Bijou Phillips is an American actress, singer and model who began her modeling career at the age of 13 by appearing on the cover of magazines “Interview” and “Italian Vogue”. Bijou Phillips later became an image model for Calvin Klein and appeared on various ad campaigns. By the time she was 17, Bijou Phillips was able to strike a recording deal and started to create her album “I’d Rather Eat Glass,” produced by Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads.
As an actress, Bijou Phillips first stepped into the movie world by appearing in James Toback’s “Black and White,” where she instantly gained critical praise for her performance as the girl asking for an autograph. She later starred in the movie “Bully” opposite Brad Renfro, Rachel Miner and Nick Stahl. Bijou Phillips then worked with veteran actors Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger in “The Door in the Floor,” the movie adaptation of John Irving’s classic, “A Widow for One Year.”
Bijou Phillips established her name as an actress when she starred in the movie “Havoc,” which also starred Anne Hathaway. The story was written by Stephen Gaghan and directed by Barbara Kopple. Bijou Phillips also portrayed the character of Lorna Doom in “What We Do is Secret” opposite Shane West. The movie talks about the punk band The Germs, and Bijou’s performance was once again praised by movie reviewers.
Bijou Phillips worked with actors Sam Rockwell and Angelica Huston in “Choke,” and the comedy “Made for Each Other” opposite Chris Masterson. Bijou Phillips was also cast as Nancy Spungeon in the ChelseaHotel biopic directed by Abel Ferrara. Other notable roles of Bijou Phillips in the big screen include Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous” in 2001 and a starring role in the movies “Tart” and “Sofa.”
Bijou’s most recent movie projects include “Octane,” “Hostel: Part II,” “Dark Streets” and “It’s Alive.” Bijou Phillips has also finished working on the upcoming flicks “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead” and “The Bridge to Nowhere.”
As a model, Bijou Phillips graced the covers of leading magazines such as Playboy, Stuff, Detour, People, Paper, Nylon, 944 and Missbehave. Bijou Phillips is also a runway model, and has posed for designers Jill Stuart and Heatherette.
As a singer, Bijou Phillips released her debut album back in 1999. Bijou Phillips is currently working on a new album, and some of her demo singles are posted in her MySpace page.
